Hero

The scooter is powered by a new 156 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine

Hero has taken the wraps off its first maxi-scooter: the Xoom 160. Unlike the smaller Xoom 110 and Xoom 125R, the Xoom 160 takes a more rugged approach to scootering as it has design inspiration from scooters like the Honda X-ADV and ADV150. And there’s quite a lot to like about this scooter.

Hero has just taken the lead when it comes to Indian maxi-scooters with the 156 cc liquid-cooled engine being the largest ever fitted to a scooter that is manufactured in the country. It will give the Yamaha Aerox 155 a good run for its money. For reference, the Aerox’s 155 cc mill makes 14.75 bhp and 13.9 Nm, while the Xoom's mill puts out 14 bhp and 13.7 Nm. It will continue to get Hero’s trademarked i3S engine start/stop technology as well as silent starter option.

However, unlike the petite and sporty Aerox, the Xoom 160 is a large and bulky maxi-scooter. It is a bulky scooter with a chunky face and hopefully humongous storage space underneath the seat. It tips the scales at 141 kg, making it 15 kg heavier than the Yammie scoot. Between the spine, you will find its fuel tank, the capacity of the space remains to be known.

Hero has given the Xoom 160 a fair few bells and whistles. For instance, LED headlight and tail light are expected. There’s a smart key for remote unlocking and a keyless experience. The console is likely to get some form of connectivity option. The scooter unveiled at EICMA also had a top box, which could be part of the accessories catalogue and enhance the touring potential of the Xoom 160.

The Xoom 160 is nearly production-ready. We expect Hero to launch the scooter by early 2024 with a competitive price tag, around the Rs 1.50 lakh mark.
