Cameron was stabbed at his home and it is suspected the attackers were trying to steal from his car collection.
Rolls-Royce’s erstwhile Design Director, Ian Cameron, was stabbed at his home in Germany on July 12. Cameron, aged 74, succumbed to his injuries. Reports suggest that the police are still looking for the suspect and it was his wife, Verena Kroos, who informed the emergency services from the neighbour’s property.
Reports also suggest that the attackers were probably trying to steal one of the valuable cars from Cameron’s collection. Cameron stayed in Herrsching on Lake Ammersee in Bavaria, Germany with his wife.

Cameron was noted for his work in moulding the design direction for Rolls-Royce after it was taken over by BMW, as well as playing a key role in designing the BMW 3 Series and Z8. Cameron joined the BMW Group in 1992 as the Exterior Design Studio Manager and was then promoted to the position of Design Director at Rolls-Royce in 1999. He held the position till 2012, after which he started his own design firm, Ian Cameron Design Partners, in 2013. However, before joining BMW, Cameron worked with Pininfarina design firm and Iveco between 1975 and 1992.
Speaking on Cameron’s contribution to Rolls Royce, Chris Brownridge, Chief Executive Officer, Rolls Royce, said, “Ian played a significant role in shaping Rolls-Royce from when it was first acquired by BMW Group. During Ian’s tenure, he led the design team for all Phantom family and Ghost models, creating thoroughly contemporary motor cars that remained sympathetic to the marque’s design lineage.”
