Renault has announced its future plans for the Indian market which involves growing into a 7-model portfolio from the current 4-model lineup. This means the addition of new models. At the same time, the French carmaker will also update the existing models. The centre of focus here is the new Renault Global Entry Platform (RGEP) — a successor to the current CMF-A platform that underpins Triber, Kiger, and Kwid.
At the recent FutuREady India programme, Renault confirmed that the new Triber will be underpinned by the new RGEP platform. While the Triber has already received a couple of minor facelifts – the most recent one in July last year — it has yet to undergo a generation change. The sub-4 metre MPV was first launched in 2019.
Renault revealed that the new RGEP architecture will be compatible with an underbody CNG kit The engineering emphasis lies in the underbody integration of the dual-cylinder CNG tanks. By positioning the cylinders within the chassis floor instead of the cabin, Renault retains the vehicle’s centre of gravity while also preserving boot space. This layout ensures that the practicality of the three-row MPV remains uncompromised despite the addition of CNG storage.

The RGEP architecture is set to incorporate an updated electronic framework along with revised suspension mounting points to accommodate the additional weight of the CNG tanks. While the exterior silhouette is likely to remain unchanged, these underlying modifications enable the integration of alternative fuel systems while ensuring compliance with safety requirements.

Besides the addition of CNG, the new Triber will also gain a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine option, the same used in the Kiger and the newly-launched Duster. This engine was rumoured to be added to the Kiger previously as well but Renault couldn’t materialise the economics of the same. This engine delivers 99 bhp and 160 Nm (152 Nm with AT) of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic unit.

Currently, the Renault Triber is only available with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that pushes out 71 bhp and 96 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The powertrain has been criticized for its slow responsive and lackluster performance, especially in the highways when fully loaded up with seven people.
The new Renault Triber is expected to make its debut at the next edition of Auto Expo in 2027. The new platform with the CNG tech will be carried to the Kiger thereafter.
