Tata Aeris: Tigor Sedan Gets a New Name, Launch Confirmed for September 25

Tata Cars has officially confirmed the launch of the Tata Aeris, which will be a refresh of the current Tigor subcompact sedan, but with a new name. Following a teaser released this weekend, the new announcement shows the entire silhouette of the new car with a few design details.

The new video shows a fleet of parked cars, each covered with what appears to be a hard white cement shell. One unit comes into focus, and the shell begins to crack, revealing a look at one headlight, part of the front grille, the fuel filler door, and the side of one taillight. Some sharp contours can also be seen, but most interestingly, the car under the shell is a bright purple colour.

Much like the previous teaser, which showed a purple bird crossing the path of a large flock of white birds, the new video seems to confirm how Tata wants to position the Aeris, setting it apart from the Tigor and its fleet equivalent, the Xpres-T. While this vibrant purple will be the car’s signature colour, it will also likely be available in other bright, peppy colours to distance itself from its predecessor’s taxi and fleet car image.

The Tata Aeris will go up against formidable competition including the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, India’s best-selling car in FY 2025-26, as well as the Honda Amaze and Hyundai Aura. It will likely be aimed at first-time buyers and young families.

The design elements confirmed in the latest video confirm expectations based on design patent filings seen earlier this year. The front face of the Aeris has been updated in line with Tata’s other recent launches such as the Tiago. The fuel filler cap confirms that this will be an ICE launch, with factory-fitted CNG variants extremely likely to hit the market at the same time. An electric version could follow at a later date. Engine options are expected to stay the same as with the current-gen Tigor, but the cabin could see some serious upgrades including a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless phone charger, and rear AC vents.
