Tata Motors continues to excel in vehicle safety as the latest Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) crash test results reveal five-star ratings for both the Tata Curvv and Nexon models. The achievement underscores Tata’s commitment to safety across its vehicle lineup, with both the internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) versions of the Curvv, as well as the Nexon, receiving top ratings for adult and child occupant protection. A point here to be noted is that BNCAP didn't test the base variants of the three models like Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP) does, instead it tested the mid-to-top-spec variants.
The internal combustion engine variant of the Curvv, specifically the Accomplished Plus A diesel-manual model, received five stars with a score of 29.50 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it earned 14.65 points out of 16, while scoring 14.85 points out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. The test report noted that the driver and front passenger had protection ranging from good to adequate, except the driver’s left shin, where protection was deemed marginal.
For child occupant protection, the Curvv ICE performed well, scoring 43.66 points out of 49. Child restraint systems for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were installed rearward-facing in the rear seats, providing a dynamic score of 22.66 out of 24. The vehicle assessment score was 9 points out of 13, and a full 12 out of 12 points were awarded for the child restraint installation. These ratings apply to all ICE variants of the Curvv.
The Curvv.ev, specifically the Empowered Plus A 55 kWh variant, slightly outperformed its ICE counterpart in safety testing, securing a score of 30.81 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it achieved 15.66 points out of 16, and 15.15 points out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. The test report highlighted that the protection for the driver and front passenger was generally good, with only shin protection rated as adequate.
On the child occupant protection front, the Curvv.ev received 44.83 points out of 49, marginally higher than the ICE version. The dynamic score for the 18-month-old dummy was a perfect 12 points, contributing to an overall dynamic score of 23.83 out of 24. The vehicle assessment score remained consistent with the ICE version at 9 points out of 13, with a perfect score for child restraint installation.
The Nexon, Tata’s popular subcompact SUV, has also earned a five-star rating from Bharat NCAP, solidifying its reputation as one of the safest vehicles in its class yet again. The tested model, equipped with six airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, electronic stability control (ESC), and seat belt reminders for all seats, scored 29.41 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it earned 14.65 points out of 16, and 14.76 points out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test.
For child occupant protection, the Nexon achieved 43.83 points out of 49, reflecting Tata Motors' consistent attention to child safety across its models. Like the Curvv, it performed well in dynamic tests and child restraint installation, contributing to its overall five-star rating.
