Triumph Bonneville 400 (1).webp

Upon launch, the Triumph Bonneville 400 will lock horns against the likes of Royal Enfield Classic 350, Jawa 350, and Honda CB350.

Triumph recently launched the updated 400 range with a new downsized 350 cc engine. As of now, Triumph’s 400 range comprises six models: Speed 400 Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Speed T4, Thruxton 400, and the recently-launched Tracker 400. The British bikemaker is now working on the seventh model of this range — the Bonneville 400.

Commonly referred to as the “Baby Bonneville”, the bike was recently spotted being tested in Europe. It has now been spied on in India as well. Like its platform siblings, the new Bonneville 400 will be built by Bajaj Auto in India. The latest spy images show an uncamouflaged unit of the modern classic roadster parked in an enclosed premises.

Triumph Bonneville 400: Expected Styling

The upcoming motorcycle is clearly reminiscent of the larger 900 cc and 1200 cc Bonnies with teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a circular headlamp, a flat and wide handlebar, a bench-type single-piece seat, and a peashooter exhaust. Unlike the test mule clicked overseas, the one spotted here gets a chrome-laden exhaust muffler and crank case. Also, the tubular pillion grab handle is also finished in chrome.

Even the mudguards, along with stays are true to Bonneville design elements seen in bigger models of the same nameplate. The long and chunky mud-guards give it a very old-school feel. All these elements give the bike a very retro appeal which the OG Bonnevilles are known for.

Triumph Bonneville 400: Expected Specs & Features

In terms of hardware, the Baby Bonneville gets a telescopic front fork with rubber gaiters and dual shock absorbers in the rear. The bike rides on wire-spoke wheels and is equipped with disc brakes. We also see a single-pod digital instrument console that is likely to offer features such as smartphone connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation.

The Bonneville 400 is expected to be powered by a 349 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, similar to the recently updated 400 range. However, it may feature a different state of tune to better match its retro character. For reference, in the Speed 400, this engine delivers 36.4 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm.
