Here’s a list of major celebrations and festivals in Mizoram.
Mim Kut: The Mim Kut festival of Mizoram honours death as well as celebrates life. During Mim Kut, the people of Mizoram pay their respect to the relatives who had died during the preceding year. The festival is also related to relishing the harvest season.
Pawl Kut: The Pawl Kut festival can be looked at as a thanksgiving festival celebrated in Mizoram. It is celebrated in December when the harvest is complete. People celebrate by eating meat and consuming local drinks.
Chapchar Kut: Chapchar Kut is celebrated by the people of Mizoram by singing and dancing. It is one of their oldest festivals and the festivities are focused on music and feasting. This annual festival is celebrated for a week in March.
Thalfavang Kut: Mizoram is an agrarian state. Therefore, several of its festivals are related to farming. The Thalfavang Kut festival is celebrated when the farmers have finished weeding their farms. People flaunt elaborate costumes and dance during the festival.
Christmas: Apart from the tribal festivals, people of Mizoram also celebrate the globally loved Christmas festival. Mizoram is home to a lot of Christians and they celebrate Christmas with great joy and happiness.
