Revenue eased marginally to ₹1,633 crore as the carmaker weathered supply constraints and export headwinds from West Asia, even as CNG and rural demand held firm.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) reported a 35 percent year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, as temporary production disruptions curbed domestic volume growth and the ongoing conflict in West Asia dented exports.
The company posted a profit after tax of ₹888.6 crore for the first quarter of FY27, down from ₹1,369.2 crore in the same period last year, according to unaudited financial results approved by the board on July 30. Consolidated revenue stood at ₹16,334.6 crore, marginally lower than ₹16,412.9 crore a year earlier, and down from ₹18,916.2 crore in the preceding quarter.
Profitability came under pressure across the board. EBITDA margin, which excludes other income, slipped to 9.3 percent from 13.3 percent a year ago and 10.4 percent in the previous quarter, reflecting the impact of lower volumes on fixed-cost absorption.
Domestic volume growth was restricted to 5.4 percent year-on-year during the quarter, a figure the company attributed to production constraints rather than weak demand. Exports, meanwhile, were affected by disruptions linked to the West Asia conflict, a region that has historically been an important outlet for Hyundai's India-made vehicles.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tarun Garg described the quarter as a difficult one. "Q1 FY27 was a challenging quarter affected by multiple headwinds impacting volumes and profitability," he said, adding that production had since returned to full capacity. "With 100 percent normalisation of production, coupled with healthy demand environment and upcoming product pipeline, recovery is likely to gain pace from Q2 onwards across both domestic and export businesses."
Garg reiterated the company's full-year guidance of 8-10 percent volume growth across domestic and export markets, along with an EBITDA margin band of 11-14 percent for FY27, suggesting management views the June-quarter weakness as transient rather than structural.
Amid the broader slowdown, some product and segment trends stood out. The Venue compact SUV recorded its highest-ever quarterly domestic sales, underscoring continued strength in India's sub-four-metre SUV segment, which remains among the most contested in the passenger vehicle market. CNG models also gained ground, contributing 18 percent of the company's overall sales mix, with the Aura sedan and Exter SUV posting their highest-ever CNG shares at 95 percent and 32 percent respectively — a trend that mirrors rising consumer preference for the fuel amid volatile petrol prices. Rural markets, too, showed resilience, with penetration touching an all-time high of 26 percent.
The results arrive as HMIL marks three decades of operations in India, a market that has grown into one of the company's largest globally by volume. The quarter's numbers illustrate the vulnerability of even well-established manufacturers to supply-side shocks and geopolitical disruptions beyond their control, even as underlying domestic demand, particularly in the CNG and rural segments, appears intact. Whether the anticipated recovery materialises will depend on how quickly production normalisation translates into showroom deliveries, and on the trajectory of the conflict affecting export markets.
