Regulations around ‘No entry’
Everyone must follow the ‘No entry’ rule in the city to avoid accidents. If a person enters a road with a ‘No entry’ sign, he or she has to pay a hefty fine between Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 5,000.
Talking on a mobile device while driving
While driving a vehicle, it is expected from the drivers to avoid the use of mobile phones in any way. In case you are caught using your mobile phone while driving, you will have to pay a fine between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 2,000.
Disobeying an officer’s order
Traffic police officers are the authoritative figures on the road when it comes to traffic laws. Every person using a vehicle on the road must follow the orders of a traffic officer. If caught disobeying an officer’s order, the offender must pay a fine of Rs. 2,000.
Use of helmet while riding
Wearing a helmet is a must for the safety of a two-wheeler rider in Coimbatore. The Traffic Police in Coimbatore is strict about this rule. If a person rides a bike without wearing a helmet, the fine is around Rs. 300 to Rs. 600.
Wearing a seatbelt while driving
Both the driver and the front passenger in a four-wheeler must wear seat belts while the vehicle is moving. The fine for not wearing a seat belt is Rs. 1,000.
Pollution standards
There are standard norms for vehicle pollution emission. If a vehicle produces more than the standard level of pollution on the road, the fine is Rs. 1,000 for the first offence. However, this penalty increases to Rs. 2,000 if an officer catches the same vehicle for excessive pollution for the second time. Every vehicle driver must possess a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) Certificate for their vehicle.
Learner’s licence plate
For the person driving with a learner’s licence, the vehicle must clearly display a learner’s licence plate. If the plate is hidden or not displayed, the fine is Rs. 300 for the first offence. Moreover, this penalty goes up to Rs. 600 if an officer catches the same vehicle without a learner’s licence plate for the second time.
Riding/driving drunk
Drinking and driving/riding is not allowed in Coimbatore. The offence is penalised with hefty fines. When caught drunk driving/riding for the first time, the offence is punishable by Rs. 10,000 of a penalty and/or 6 months of imprisonment. The punishment for the second offence includes Rs. 15,000 of fine and/or 2 years of imprisonment.
